Ashgabat: Indonesia emerged from a tough trip to Central Asia with what could be a crucial away goal as the ASEAN side came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Turkmenistan in the first leg of their 2014 FIFA World Cup second round qualifier in Ashgabat on Saturday.
Russia-based attacker Vyacheslav Krendelev put Turkmenistan 1-0 up in the 11th minute only for Muhammad Ilham to cancel out the FC Luch-Energiya midfielder’s opener on the half-hour mark as the two sides went in to the interval on an even keel.
Neither side could add to the tally in the second half as the match ended all square, a result that recently appointed Indonesia coach Wim Rijsbergen – a two-time World Cup finalist as a player with Holland – would not be too disappointed with going into the return fixture in Jakarta next Thursday.
